In the beginning...

New Beginnings Baptist Church met for the first time on Sunday, June 19, 1983, with 67 people in attendance. Sitting in lawn chairs at the home of Lynn & Linda Spruiell, these people united their hearts, lives and resources to offer a fresh ministry to northwest Longview. The church called its first staff two weeks later. An office building at 3603 Gilmer Road was secured for meeting facilities. Affectionately remembered at the "storefront," the building soon was too small, so adjacent space was secured and walls removed to accommodate its growing family. Another building was later secured as the "storefront" expanded a third time.

Various ministries began as the church grew in its commitment to love people and minister to their needs. R.A.'s, G.A.'s, Mission Friends, Baptist Women, and a strong student ministry, as well as Bible Study and Discipleship Training began. Choir programs began for all ages - adults, youth, children and preschool.

Property was located and secured at the intersection of George Richey Road and Remington Trail. In April of 1985, Paul & Associates of Tyler were contracted as project manager to build permanent facilities on George Richey Road. The first Sunday in these facilities, January 12, 1986, was highlighted by the church's highest attendance ever - 258 for Bible Study. Except for overflow crowds, people sat on chairs for the last time as pews arrived one week later. Dedication services were held Sunday, January 26, 1986.

Receiving 560 additions to the church from 1985-1987, the church made plans for additional space. Additional educational space to minister to 650 people in Bible Study was completed in September, 1988. This phase also included an auditorium expansion to accommodate 200 more people for worship.

Over the years, New Beginnings Baptist Church has continued to grow and reach families. We have experienced exciting changes and additions in our ministries, additions to our staff, and have completed a new worship center. God continues to bless our church.
