Six Habits to Make the Most of Sunday Worship

main image

As we begin a new year, I want you to consider the impact that Sunday Worship Gatherings can have in your life and in the life of so many in our community. It is a weekly opportunity to gather with God’s people and experience His presence together. This is one of the greatest gifts He has given us. So, as you are making the list of “new starts” in the new year, I want you to consider these 6 habits that can make your Sunday Worship Gatherings more impactful:

 1.  Prepare spiritually

Get up a few minutes early and spend some time in prayer. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you focus and allow you to experience His power with His people. This simple practice can prepare your heart to encounter God’s presence.

 2.  Anticipate God’s voice

Go with a sense of urgency, believing that God wants to meet with you and speak to you. It might be through the music or the preaching, but it’s essential that you lean in and anticipate what He wants to say to you.

 3.  Worship through singing.

In the bible, we are commanded to sing and give praise to the Lord through music. Singing to God with His people is the closest preview of heaven we could ever have. So sing and lift your voice during Sunday Worship. Even if you cannot make a Joyful sound, make a joyful noise!

 4.  Take sermon notes.

Get a journal or a good notepad that you only use on Sundays. Write down the major points of the sermon, scripture references, or anything that speaks directly to you. This allows you to focus and gives you something to review later in the week.

 5.  Invite a friend who needs Jesus.

It’s amazing how our focus changes when we invite a friend to join us. You will find yourself praying for them through the service, engaging in worship with more excitement and listening to the sermon with greater focus. Not to mention the benefit it has to them.

 6.  Make it a priority.

Guard your Sundays from the busyness of life. When your Worship Gathering attendance becomes the center of your schedule, it allows you to stay connected and keeps you in tune with what God is doing through His church. Listening to the podcast is helpful when needed, but this should never be a replacement from being present in the service.

I believe that these 6 habits will change your Sunday Worship Gathering experience in 2017. I encourage you to try them for the next 10 weeks and see the difference it will make. I cannot wait to see the impact it will have on your life, our church, and our community.
