The Power of Kingdom Life

June 6,  2021 | A Better Treasure | The Power of Kingdom Life | Matthew 7:7-11

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” Matthew 7:7-11 (ESV)

What you have in this verse is this invitation to pray. (It’s a command…imperative to ask…seek…knock!) and you have this promise that whoever asks receives, whoever seeks finds and whoever knocks it will be opened.

The Holy Spirit is the power by which the Kingdom life is lived and prayer is the means by which we the Holy Spirit empowers us!

The Kingdom life is a life that we cannot live apart from the outpouring and outworking of the Holy Spirit. We need His power in our life in order to live this Kingdom life…how do we love our enemies? Pray for those who persecute us? Avoid judging? Rejoice in suffering? Not repay evil for evil? We need a power greater than our own.

“But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh… But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:16,22-23 (ESV)

Walking by the Spirit enables us to live life Jesus! The life of Jesus in us is fueled by life in the Spirit!

The reason so many of us lack joy, peace, patience. The reason why so many of us are bound by sin and lack genuine love is because we are not living by the power of the Holy Spirit! The reason we don’t share Jesus is, we are not walking in the Spirit.

How do we get there? PRAYER!

Prayer is the Key that unlocks the power of the Holy Spirit.

God has ordained prayer to be the expression of dependence that enables the church but individually and collectively as a body to experience His power!

Prayer is to be continual, not occasional • “Pray without ceasing Ephesians 6:18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication.” 1 Thess. 5:17 (ESV)

Prayer is to be active not passive prayer is not passively sitting back and hoping, wishing or even believing. It is an active pursuit, ask for Him, seek Him, knock, pursue HIM.

Here are two questions: Is Jesus your Lord and Savior? Do you want to walk in the power of the Holy Spirit?
